FO Friday 56: The Seekrit is Out












Well, this is the least I can show you:


A tiny ball about the size of a large marble, which is what's left over after the completion of the Seekrit Projekt.

'Course, that really is the least I can show you. But since I'm in an expansive, friendly and generous mood (let's not say exhibitionist or proud), I will reveal the Seekrit Projekt in it's entirety:




































Posed over a recently painted wall just up the road - I needed a light background to show the shawl at its best; I had to wait til the kids were at school to do this in case my eccentricity embarrassed them ...

As for the Madeline Tosh laceweight 'Prairie', colorway 'Briar'. Hmm. Yes, it's nice. 840 yards/768 metres, which is good. But it is still only merino wool - and not especially soft, at that. The color is lovely, but again, I don't find it to be jaw-dropping. So I don't think that it justifies its price tag of £25.00 (approx. $40US) when in the USA it retails for $25 (approx. £16) , a considerable difference that I do not believe is due to merely the shipping costs.

    It's a gorgeous shawl for sure! And like you, I'm having cross-border price difference issues. I'm fed up with being ripped off!

    Wow, V, it's beautiful! Good job!

    Exchange rates, taxes, shipping, other overhead, it adds up. But I refuse to believe it adds up to quite that much. "Low profit margin industry" my !@$.

    Wow! Sooo pretty!!! I love the color too! So sorry about the pricing issue though. It is very beautiful though so just think about how pretty you'll be rather than the price. ;-D

    And I do understand your phototaking issues - I too often risk embarrassment when photographing my knitwork. But you've found the perfect background.

    Kathleen, £16 is a fair price for it; £25 is not. IMO :-)

    Wow, it's amazing! But you didn't tell us what the shawl is called. :)

    I agree about the price of the yarn. I wouldn't pay $40 for it since it's just merino wool and not a silk or cashmere blend, so why should you pay the equivalent?

    Your shawl is beautiful. It looks great on the white background.

    I wonder about some of the markup, I hear about over there. Like the DMC floss, is about .35 here and 1.50 over there.

    Love the color!! Sorry that the yarn was a bit pricier :( When trying a new yarn, its always hard to decide if the price is worth it before you can actually knit with it.

    it looks gorgeous! it is weird that they'd up the price that much - definitely doesn't seem like it would cost $15 just to ship that (especially since you'd assume the are shipping in bulk!) - but I hope that you come to love the shawl despite that. I do!
