WIP Wednesday 33

It's ages since I blogged about a WIP (Work In Progress) but it was sunny today and I managed to get my camera to work. I have two to share with you, but only one is knitting - which is the cabled cardigan/jacket I'm making for Mini Diva.

It seems to be lasting forever or I seem to be taking forever to knit it. She decided the hooded version would be best (she thinks it is for her cousin) so that has extended my suffering in this particular circle of hell. I have about 6cm of hood left to knit, then the hood border, then the sewing up, then the buttons.

I had tried the 3 shops in town that sell buttons, but not one had anything remotely suitable, so DH (because he can be a honey) took me over to Fabric8 in Felixstowe on Saturday, where Mini Diva instantly found the perfect color and size amongst their mehusive selection:

And then because it was sunny we went to the beach, where the children - unbelievably - paddled in the water, and the dog refused to go anywhere near it.

Which brings me nicely to the second WIP for today:

don't be deceived - he is as dumb as a rock

I discovered over the weekend that he either is afraid of or hates water - he had a wet-spaghetti moment when I tried to get him into the shower for a seriously overdue wash; I think he has never been bathed, and his life before he came to us may have meant that he never really needed one. However, we do go to wet, muddy, smelly places, so we will have to overcome this somehow.

The other thing that we confirmed recently is one of his totally unattractive and seriously socially unacceptable habits, which gives a new meaning to this phrase; he is indiscriminate about it too - the cats' or his own, he's not fussy. On the plus side, I don't have to empty the cat litter tray out as frequently. I have read that feeding the dog bananas will stop this, but there is little discussion on how to get the bananas into the dog .....

the grin in question

Don't forget to pop on over to Tami's blog, where she hosts the links for the blogs taking part in WIP Wednesday ....

  2. Your Mini Diva did a great job picking out buttons -- they are fun and elegant, perfect for that lovely sweater (even if it is hellish to knit).

  3. Your dog is ADORABLE!

The buttons are perfect and I love that she has no clue the pullover is for her. Beautiful color!

  4. Love the pullover, looks complicated - no wonder it is slow going! perfect buttons.. I need to borrow the dog as I am not feeling like doing the cat boxes today.. lol

  5. Fabulous sweater! Hang in, you're almost at the finish line. As for the dog, he is pretty adorable. My dog was a lab/border collie mix who HATED water. She would walk into the street to avoid sprinklers or puddles. Weirdo. He'll likely get better once he learns you're not actually trying to drown him. Good luck!

  6. How to get dog to eat banana? Easy, offer him a bit! My alsation / collie cross loves Bananas! I have to make her leave the room when the kids have bananas, she loves them that much :)

  7. He may get interested in water as a plaything. Mine developed a bit of a phobia as a pup, when, despite my efforts to prevent it, he accidentally-on-purpose fell into the duck pond because it looked like fun. He quickly discovered that not only could he not swim like a duck, but that in January, pond water is unpleasantly cold :)
Anyways, he wasn't keen on water for a while, but he did get thirsty and so learned to drink from the water fountain and then the hose and eventually was happily leaping into ponds again, not to mention being showered down. I have some great pics somewhere - I'll have to dig them out.

  9. Loving your project. I think a hoodie will be great on it too.

Would love to know if the bananas help the dog. My soon to be 1 year old puppy has decided to eat poo again. Argh! Not cute.

  10. Look at your dumb-as-a-rock dog, what an expression. And those ears! I like the cardigan too ;-).

  11. Mini Diva is a button picking STAR! Will you rent her out to indecisive button choosers (ie. me)?

Bitter does that too. And yes, the bananas definitely help. We've no trouble getting her to eat them though, she will literally stare any fruit out of your hands if you're eating some.

  13. Everyone has said it, but I'll join in: love the buttons.

We have a dog that eats bananas on a pretty regular basis, but he still has a proclivity for any and all *ahem* sloppy seconds. But he'll eat just about anything.

  14. Oh, those cables are fantastic! No wonder it's taking forever :)

  15. The cables are gorgeous! Great job. Love the color too.

Your dog is just too cute! I don't know how to help with the water, I had a dog like that too, and never could get him in the tub (he weight 100+ lbs) Your dog wont just eat the banana? Maybe put it in a kong with peanut butter?

  16. My friends dog does that! There is some type of medicine you can give them to help them stop. I guess it makes it taste bad...as if it doesn't already?! Love the way your sweater is coming along!

  17. Aha! At last, my ancient pc allows me to post! Could you get him with the garden hose? I remember trying to bathe a cat once, in a kitchen sink. The cat had a face on him like Lee Van Cleefe and as we tried (unsuccessfully) to cram his body into the sink, we realised that he had all 4 paws on the edges (think of a furry spider and you have it) and his body just would not make contact with the water. We got him in the bath in the end. In our swimsuits. Too much effort required - never did it again.
